It is precisely in these situations, while driving a thresher that moves at the exorbitant speed of four kilometers per hour, that you will grasp the essence of this title which certainly wants to stimulate your organizational skills, but is almost obsessively determined to propose a meticulous simulation even in the most boring and repetitive aspects. You have to make a mistake to learn, getting used to the idea of having wasted hours and hours of work, due to an error of assessment or, worse still, for a wrong maneuver.Īs we said above, Farming Simulator 17 puts you at the controls of tractors, vans and vehicles of all kinds, all useful to allow the various crops to grow, bear fruit, be harvested and then sold.
There is a certain underlying cynicism, it is undeniable, but it is part of the package. The tutorials come to your aid, but they are never exhaustive, nor do they take stock of what the long-term consequences of your action may be. You need experience, a quality that you will completely miss at first, unless you are a veteran of the saga. It is necessary to decide which seeds to plant, which fields to plow, when is the best time for harvesting, to choose the suitable means to carry out each task, to manage finances to keep the account in surplus, to plan investments rationally.

In Farming Simulator 17, exactly as in past iterations, without any preamble or narrative prologue, you will be abandoned to yourself in the middle of a gigantic plot of land: the only resource only possibly capable of generating wealth.

After all we are talking about an even more static and realistic version of Harvest Moon, a sort of The Sims in which it is not possible to choose a partner, profession, how to beautify your home. It goes without saying that we are talking about a very particular saga, suitable for very few palates, practically indigestible and unjustifiable by the vast majority of the audience. This year’s edition features 250 vehicles available for purchase right from the start of the campaign. It makes tangible, in the videogame field, the almost obsessive need to take refuge in an oasis of peace, governed by mechanics that do not provide for indiscriminate extermination, nor the completion of certain objectives in a short period of time. Farming Simulator paradoxically establishes this need in the virtual world.
There is more, something already revealed, years ago, by Totò Cutugno, when pathetically (with pathos, of course), he sang his desire to go and live in the countryside, detaching from the schizophrenic and superhuman rhythms of the city, a symbol of a prevailing and oppressive economic system and artificiality.

Farming Simulator it is the equivalent, in videogame sauce, of a Zen garden, of the yoga hour, of a session with the psychologist.
